Akanes Lailias Serres

Akanes is a traditional sweet of Serres. It resembles loukoumi but tastes completely different, as it contains butter and almonds.

Its history is lost in the years of the Turkish occupation. They were made in huge cauldrons and the mixture was mixed by workers working long hours. It is said, without being able to be confirmed, that the name akanes comes from the imperative of the verb 'aka' meaning to stir and the 'yes' that the workers answered.
