Baked raki from Amorgos

The roasted raki of Amorgos is a traditional drink of the island that is not missing from celebrations, weddings, festivals and treats. Amorgos is the only place that produces roasted raki.

Its ingredients are sweet and full of aromas, but its alcohol quickly leads to cheerfulness. It's a kind of local home-made drink but not to be confused with rakomelo. The basic recipe is simple, but each house puts its own twist on it.

The basic herbs are cinnamon and cloves and in some cases a little aniseed and all of them are boiled in water. The sweetener is sugar and honey. It is offered at the monastery of Hozoviotissa accompanied by doughnuts!
