What is basmati rice?

Basmati is an aromatic long-grain white rice originating from India. In fact, ancient Indian texts mention that when Alexander the Great arrived in India, this type of rice was being cultivated.

In order for a rice to be classified as basmati, the grains must have certain characteristics such as length, width and aroma. Basmati has a nutty aroma and when cooked it has an airy and light texture. In the Hindi language, basmati means fragrant. It is gluten-free and has a low glycemic index.

It is cooked with butter, olive oil, various vegetable oils, fresh herbs, accompanying meat with sauce and curry and vegetable dishes. Famous is the basmati rice dish with biryani

Basmati is available in white and brown varieties, peeled and unpeeled.
